Stablecoin payments

Your prices in local currency.

Your customers pay in USDT or USDC while you price and keep your accounts in ERN. The checkout shows the asset, network, amount and address for each payment, and your merchant workspace tracks its confirmation. Assets, networks and limits depend on your account and its verification.

01

Link, checkout or API

Share a payment link, redirect to a hosted page or create payments through the API from your own site.

02

Exact instructions for every payment

The customer sees the asset, network, amount and address to use. Sending on the wrong network can lose funds.

03

Confirmation tracking

Fulfil only when the payment shows confirmed in your merchant workspace, never on the strength of a screenshot.

04

Know the risks

Stablecoins are designed to track the US dollar but can deviate. They carry issuer, market and network risks and are not bank deposits.

Stablecoin payments in Eritrea: nakfa pricing and foreign currency rules to check

Eritrea’s currency is the nakfa (ERN), issued by the Bank of Eritrea under the Bank of Eritrea Proclamation No. 93/1997. If stablecoin payments are enabled for your account, your customers pay in USDT or USDC, while your business keeps pricing, invoicing and bookkeeping in ERN terms. Eritrea publishes detailed rules on foreign currency and on the use of the national currency, so treat the checkpoints below as questions to settle with the Bank of Eritrea or a qualified local adviser before you rely on stablecoin receipts. They are not legal guidance.

01

No published crypto rule found, but foreign currency rules apply

We did not find an official Eritrean statement on crypto-assets or stablecoins in the government sources we reviewed. What is published is a foreign currency framework: the Ministry of Information reported on 20 February 2013 that Proclamation No. 173/2013 covers foreign currency deposit accounts, domestic commercial transactions and/or contracts, and currency remittance and exchange. USDT and USDC track the US dollar, so check with the Bank of Eritrea or a qualified local adviser how that proclamation applies to your sales before you enable stablecoin checkout for customers in Eritrea.

02

Price and keep your accounts in nakfa

Through Legal Notice No. 124/2015, the Bank of Eritrea replaced old notes with new legal tender nakfa notes, and Legal Notice No. 129/2017 capped the nakfa that travellers may take out of the country to ensure the proper use of the national currency within Eritrea. Keep prices, invoices and accounts in ERN terms, and record for each stablecoin payment the asset, network, amount received and transaction reference. A 2016 workshop in Asmara with COMESA discussed establishing a Financial Intelligence Unit in Eritrea: ask a local adviser which identification and record-keeping duties apply to you.

03

Fulfil on confirmation, refund like for like

Fulfil an order only once the payment shows as confirmed in your ZyndPay workspace, on the asset and network the checkout displayed. A screenshot, a forwarded message or a wallet notification sent by the customer is not proof of payment. If you need to refund, send it in the same asset and on the same network the customer used, to an address you have verified with them, and keep the record with the original order. Stablecoins are not bank deposits and carry issuer, market and network risk, so agree your refund and dispute terms with customers in writing before you sell.

These Ministry of Information (Shabait) pages report Bank of Eritrea and government texts on the nakfa, foreign currency and anti-money-laundering work. They describe Eritrea’s currency and regulation and do not establish a ZyndPay licence, partnership, regulatory approval, or availability for your account.
