The Namibia dollar (NAD) is issued by the Bank of Namibia, the only institution entitled by law to issue its notes and coins, and it is pegged one-to-one to the South African rand within the Common Monetary Area. If stablecoin payments are enabled for your account, customers pay in USDT or USDC while your business keeps pricing, invoicing and accounting in NAD terms. Decide how you record the NAD value of each payment before you start, and use the same method for orders, refunds and reports. Stablecoins are not bank deposits and carry issuer, market and network risk.
In an August 2023 media release, the Bank of Namibia said the Virtual Assets Act, 2023 (Act No. 10 of 2023) became operational on 25 July 2023 and that the Bank will license, regulate and supervise virtual asset service providers. The same release states that virtual currencies will not enjoy legal tender status like the Namibian dollar, and that accepting them for goods and services is at the discretion of the merchant and buyer. The Bank has also warned the public about the risks of investing in virtual assets. Check with your legal adviser how the Act applies to your business.
Namibia belongs to the Common Monetary Area with South Africa, Lesotho and Eswatini, which the Bank of Namibia describes as keeping a common exchange control regime with the rest of the world. Exchange control is administered by the Bank of Namibia, which has delegated some functions to Authorised Dealers. If customers outside Namibia pay you in stablecoins, check with your bank or adviser how these rules affect your records and conversions, and keep the NAD value, date and order reference for each payment.
Release goods or services only once the payment shows as confirmed in your ZyndPay workspace, never on the strength of a screenshot, transaction hash or chat message from the customer. Check that the asset and network match the checkout before treating the order as paid. If you refund, return the same asset on the same network to an address the customer confirms, and keep the order reference with the refund record. Explain this policy before payment so customers know how disputes are handled.
These Bank of Namibia pages describe Namibia’s currency, exchange control framework and virtual asset legislation. They do not establish a ZyndPay licence, partnership, regulatory approval, or availability for your account.
